Braceborough woman to walk Stamford Town Trail dressed as a postbox

A woman hopes a wacky outfit choice will draw in donations.

Liz Kentish, from Braceborough, is set to don a postbox outfit on Saturday next week (October 1) as she puts her best foot forward to complete the Stamford Town Trail.

Starting in Broad Street, the walk loops around Stamford visiting the town’s most historic sites.

Inspired by her postie Stewart McGeoch, who dressed up in a variety of outfits during lockdown, Liz ordered herself a costume.

“I decided on a postbox without realising how awkward it would be to walk in.

“I have done some practice in the village and no-one bats an eyelid - they know I like to have a bit of fun.

“There is something about how people react which I love. There were a couple of cyclists who did a double-take but then they had a smile on their faces.

“We are living in difficult times so this isn’t just about raising awareness but also about bringing happiness.”

The walk will raise funds for the charity From Me To You, which Liz is a trustee of.

Through letter writing workshops and the ‘Donate A Letter’ programme the charity aims to reduce social isolation and loneliness for people with cancer.

Liz, 55, is no stranger to costumes and has an extensive fancy dress box at home.

Her husband Dave will accompany her on the walk, although he won’t be dressed up.

She said: “I am a bit nervous so I picked a Saturday thinking I better just get it over and done with.

“If it encourages one person to find out more about it then it is worth the embarrassment.”

Liz is also looking forward to finding out more about the history of Stamford through the walk and will be posting a letter to a cancer patient at each postbox along the route.

Liz got involved in the charity after writing letters to family and friends with cancer.

“I will keep going until everyone has got a letter,” she said.
