Rutland Horticultural Society is saved from closure

A long-running organisation has been saved from closure.

Rutland Horticultural Society staged crisis talks last week after failing to attract new committee members.

The organisation has been running since 1872 but was at risk of closing for good.

A spokesman said: "We have decided to stay in our roles for another year to try and keep the society going.

"We will not hold our annual show or spring market this year, but hope to reinstate them next year if we get the support needed."

Monthly talks will take place until September.

The next one takes place on Thursday, February 10 at 7.30pm at the Rutland Community Hub in Oakham with Joe Whitehead talking about the gardens at Burghley House.

Admission for all talks this year is free.
