Drivers faced major delays after a lorry lost its load on the A1 at Wansford.

The accident occurred shortly after 3am this morning (Monday) and the northbound carriageway was shut for about six hours while emergency services cleared the road.

Police say the driver of a Scania refrigerated lorry appeared to have lost control of the vehicle after hitting the kerb.

A spokesman said that the trailer had then broken off from the cab, which itself had gone off the road. The driver was slightly hurt in the accident and no other vehicles had been involved.

The spokesman said the northbound carriageway had been closed from Norman Cross.

The carriageway was reopened shortly after 9am.
