Man charged in connection with Stamford mobile phone store burglary
A 46 year-old man has been charged with burglary relating to an incident at an EE store in Stamford last month.
Leon Cobley of Oak Close, Rubery, Birmingham appeared at the Lincoln Magistrates Court and was remanded in custody.
Cobley was arrested and charged with offences related to a burglary on September 7 in which £30,000 worth of mobile phones were stolen from the EE store in High Street.
Stamford Police's Inspector Ian Martin said officers had put in a "huge amount" of work to carry out the arrest and had recovered items related to the offence.
He said due to the ongoing investigation he could not divulge details of how Cobley - who appeared in court on September 29 - was arrested.
"But it was a joint operation between Lincolnshire and West Mercia Police, obtaining a warrant to search a premises," he said.
Brazen thieves made off with high end mobile phones after smashing their way into the Stamford store in the early hours of the morning.
Three suspects forced their way into the store through the front door before making off with high end iPhones and Samsungs.
Police at the time said the suspects had been travelling in a white Volkswagen Scirocco.
"Prior to committing this burglary we know they have been to the village of Colleyweston and stolen some vehicle registration plates from another car," a police spokesman said.
"These plates have been attached to the Scirocco and were on the vehicle when the burglary happened."
