Furloughed Rutland travel consultant Joanne Popple takes up baking in support of NHS Charities Together

A travel consultant has turned her hand to baking for the NHS since being furloughed from work.

Joanne Popple is “embracing her inner Mary Berry” by baking sweet treats for health workers.

She is also running a weekly cake raffle to raise money for NHS Charities Together which is supporting staff working with Covid-19 patients.

She has raised £1,200 so far.

Joanne, 38, said: “I wanted to raise some money for the amazing job the NHS is doing during this epidemic - not just the doctors and nurses but everyone who is working tirelessly to keep us all as well and safe as possible.

“Ordinarily they are incredible and the care they have provided to my mum during her cancer treatment has been out of this world. She has been showered with love and kindness even when the staff are being pushed to breaking point.

“This is my little way of giving something back.”

Joanne has been baking from her home kitchen in Cottesmore.

She is selling raffle tickets via a Justgiving page which cost £12 to enter for four weeks. Winners can either collect their prize from Joanne’s home or wait to receive a treat when lockdown is over.

Joanne has also been baking treats for hospital staff in Oakham and Leicester.
