Stamford Town Council issues tribute to mayor of Stamford Maxine Couch who died this week

Stamford Town Council has today (Saturday, June 27) issued a tribute to mayor of Stamford Maxine Couch.

Maxine died on Thursday and her colleagues on Stamford Town Council have led the tributes.

A statement issued by Stamford Town Council said: "Maxine Couch was born in Yeovil, Somerset and moved to Stamford in 1983. Maxine was elected to Stamford Town Council representing St George’s Ward in 2011.

"A member of the civic society for many years, she was as passionate about Stamford’s history and protecting the heritage of the town as she was improving facilities for the local community and businesses. Her links with the forces were well established with her father serving in the Fleet Air Arm and having married an RAF serviceman.

"Her children Ben and Amy, together with her grandson Freddie, were the heart of her family.

"Maxine was an active, popular and dedicated member of the town council. Living and working locally, she fully appreciated the challenges faced by residents and businesses alike during challenging times.

"As chairman of the events committee she established several well received family events on the Recreation Ground bandstand, and tirelessly strived to develop the highly popular Christmas fair and town centre festive lighting scheme which continues to draw many thousands of visitors to Stamford.

"Her ill health did not curb her activities. She remained a committed member of the council, willing to contribute to council matters to the best of her abilities always to deliver the best for Stamford. She was a genuinely good person in the traditional sense whose innate integrity was apparent to all who knew her. She will be sorely missed by family, friends and numerous colleagues alike."
