Met Office issues warning for snow and ice
The Met office has issued a yellow warning for snow and ice for the East of England.
The warning is in place from Thursday, January 17, to 10am on Friday (January 18).
Sleet and snow showers are possible with ice forming during Thursday evening and night.
Some roads and railways are likely to be affected with longer journey times by road, bus and train services.
The public is also advised to take caution when walking as injuries from slips and falls on icy surfaces are possible.
Emergency services have warned motorists to take care on the roads if driving between these hours.
"Make sure when you drive home tonight you take it slow as there are report of potential snow and ice affecting the East of England," said police.
The Met Office said following the occasional colder snap so far this winter, there are now signs that cold winter weather resulting from a sudden stratospheric warming is on the way.
Deputy chief meteorologist, Martin Young said: “The latest forecast suggests the highest risk of any severe wintry weather is from late January and into February."
