MindSpace Stamford supported Christina through mental health breakdown

A woman who experienced the effectiveness of MindSpace Stamford is encouraging people to find out more about the mental health charity.

In 2018 mother-of-two Christina Groombridge had a ‘slow, painful breakdown’.

After a spell in hospital, which she described as 'worse than prison', Christina approached MindSpace through social media and was immediately invited along to a session at the Shack at the Recreation Ground in Stamford.

Christina, who works part-time as a chef at The White Horse in Baston, said: “I feel like I’m part of their family now.”

Since joining the group, she has become a qualified volunteer at MindSpace, often helping to welcome people and helping them socialise. She also shares information about mental health in the community.

“I have gained so much knowledge, it’s taken so many years and I want to share it,” she added.

Mindspace will be opening a centre in Broad Street, Stamford later this month.

It was founded about four years ago by town GP Dr Dan Petrie.

Over time it has grown to provide a drop-in café, film nights and other activities that aim to prevent loneliness and isolation, and improve people’s mental wellbeing.

At MindSpace, people are given the opportunity speak about their problems free of any judgment.
