A Somerby pub is toasting more success after scooping a CAMRA (Campaign for Real Ale) Pub of the Year award for Leicestershire, Rutland and Northamptonshire.

The Stilton Cheese Inn had already been awarded the title of Melton Mowbray and District CAMRA 2015 Pub of the Year.

It then advanced to the next level of the competition which saw CAMRA branch members visiting the eight shortlisted inns across the three counties and then voting for their top pub.

And on Saturday, at a regional CAMRA meeting, the Stilton Cheese Inn was named the county winner.

The pub will now vye for the title of CAMRA East Midlands Pub of the Year and, if it wins, it will be in the running for the CAMRA National Pub of the Year prize, with the winner due to be crowned in early 2016.

Jeff and Carol Evans, who have been in the pub trade for 40 years, have run the Stilton Cheese for over 20 of those, with the cosy bar being run by their daughter, Lynne, and their other daughter, Claire, running the kitchen along with her husband.

Jeff and Carol were unavailable for comment at the time of going to press but Melton Mowbray and District CAMRA branch chairman Kevin Billson said: “I’m absolutely chuffed to bits for them. I’m a big fan of theirs and it has been a great pub for years so I’m really pleased they’ve been recognised.

“We hope to have a branch meeting there on July 1 to celebrate them winning this latest round.”
