Motor club visited by heroes
Petrolheads at the Bourne Motor Racing Club were treated to to the inspirational stories of three military heroes who have been helped by a motorsport charity.
Members of the club packed into the Corn Exchange to hear about Mission Motorsport and the work they do to to aid in the recovery and rehabilitation of those affected by military service by providing opportunities through motorsport.
The charity also brought along two of their cars displayed two of their cars and the night raised £412 that was handed over.
“I think the Bourne event went really well and was really well received,” said Adam Marchant-Wincott, chief operating officer of Mission Motorsport.
“We got some really good feedback from it and the meeting heard the stories of three of our beneficiaries.”
Leading hand, Colin Murphy, a former naval aviation technical engineer, was one of those who spoke to the meeting and explained how Mission Motorsport had helped him following an injury playing rugby.
He had surgery for a spine fusion but complications during the operation led to a brain injury and other complications, including losing his voice.
This set off a sequence of mental health issues including depression.
He was introduced to Mission Motorsport and it aided his recovery and now has a job at Jaguar Land Rover.
Major Andrew Heckles suffered a traumatic brain injury following a serious assault at a new year’s party in Louth and has been a tireless fundraiser for the charity.
Also at the meeting was Elysia Doughty who served in Iraq and benefited from Mission Motorsport support and will now be mentored by a HR expert she met at the meeting.
