Prime Minister Boris Johnson will not stand as a General Election candidate for Melton and Rutland according to outgoing MP Sir Alan Duncan
Rutland's MP has quashed rumours that Boris Johnson is planning to stand as his successor in the forthcoming General Election.
Melton and Rutland MP Alan Duncan announced last week that he is standing down from the seat he has held since 1992.
Following the announcement, social media was flooded with rumours that Mr Johnson will stand as a candidate for the constituency because it is regarded as a safe seat for the Conservatives.
Sir Alan said: “Unfortunately some people using social media have deliberately created this false rumour. They have also said the same about three other seats.
"It is completely fake and untrue.”
The Conservative party is expected to announce its election candidate on Friday.
The Brexit Party has already named Jim Bennett as its candidate while Dr Carol Weaver will stand for the Liberal Democrats.
The deadline for candidate nominations is November 14.
