Mother and daughter Olga and Maria Alam of Barleythorpe swim for Cancer Research UK and Marie Curie Cancer Care




A mother and daughter duo swam 2.5km together to raise money for charity.

Olga Alam and her daughter Maria, of Barleythorpe, took part in the swimathon in support of Marie Curie Cancer Care and Cancer Research UK.

They swam 100 lengths of a 25 metre pool. Their aim was to complete the challenge in an hour and a half.

Olga said: "We did much better than that, finishing neck and neck in 1 hour 14 minutes although Maria beat me by 6 milliseconds!

"We raised an astonishing £301 and would like to thank all who supported us.

"Cancer is a horrid thing and with great research teams it might become something no one has to be petrified of any more."
