Ketton woman launches Rutland Wax Melts business during coronavirus lockdown

A Ketton woman who was bored during lockdown has turned her new hobby into a small business.

Leanne Soutar was furloughed from her role as a media sales consultant for Iliffe Media and finding herself with free time, she decided to start making her own wax melts to burn at home.

Having researched the products elsewhere on the market, Leanne, 34, was convinced she could make a more environmentally friendly product and when friends and family also loved her creations, Rutland Wax Melts was born.

Leanne launched a website last week with 10 different scents, all handmade from scratch, and has already been taken aback by the positive response her products have received.

The mother-of-two said: “I started making them just to give myself something to do and I really enjoyed it.

“I never expected to make a business from it but when I received good feedback, I thought why not?

“It’s really nice to get an order, make it and package it all up for someone. I really enjoy the whole process.”

Both the wax and the packaging Leanne uses is recyclable or biodegredable.

Each pack of four wax melts costs just £3.50 with postage costs also kept low at 99p.

Leanne said: “It’s really important to me to keep it environmentally friendly and affordable.

“I’m looking forward to seeing where the business goes and how it develops.”
