The Eco Emporium will open in Oakham selling environmentally friendly products
A shop selling environmentally friendly products is set to open in Oakham.
The Eco Emporium will be based in Westgate above the Number Three Eco Salon, which also prides itself on using sustainable products.
Owner Jenni Penfold has had a life-long passion for saving the planet and is keen to bring the concept of sustainable shopping to the town.
The Eco Emporium will stock re-usable health and beauty products like baby wipes, make up pads and sanitary products.
It will also stock bamboo toothbrushes, razors with recyclable blades. shampoo bars and re-usable straws.
Jenni said: "I've always been interested in eco products. Plastic is a massive problem because it's so throw away and a lot of it isn't recyclable.
"We started to see plastic as this amazing thing and used it for everything, and now we're stuck with it."
The new business will also stock second-hand vintage clothing and offer a space for artists and crafters to sell the products.
Twenty-five people have already signed up to showcase their items.
Jenni added: "Everyone has been really excited about the shop because there aren't many places for crafters to sell locally.
"Buying from local makers is really eco-friendly because there is no shipping involved."
To maintain the environmental theme, Jenni is currently fitting out the shop with second-hand furniture and fixtures with the help of her father, Dorian Penfold.
The official opening of The Eco Emporium will take place on Saturday, March 21 at midday.
Staff from the Bat and Bottle will be serving organic wine and some of the crafters will be there to talk about their products.
The shop will open Tuesday to Saturday.
