Schoolgirl Merryn Fry shows off her new look after donating her hair to the Little Princess Trust

A schoolgirl is getting used to a new look after having her hair cut off for charity.

Merryn Fry grew her hair during lockdown in preparation for making a donation to The Little Princess Trust.

The hair which she had cut off will go towards making a wig for a child who has lost their own hair through illness or as a result of medication.

The nine-year-old, who is a pupil at Great Casterton Primary School, also raised £690 in sponsorship will go towards the cost of making the wigs.

Her mum Donna said: "She loves her new hairstyle and has smashed her goal of raising £550."

Merryn hasn't had short hair for a long time so the new cut is a big change.

Although she loves the colour of her hair, Merryn's mum says her daughter has never really spent much time on fancy hairstyles, so she shouldn't miss her long locks too much.

Donna said: "She wanted to help other people after realising the struggles other young people are facing.

"We don't know anyone who has needed to use this service but Merryn wanted to do something to help other children."

The Little Princess Trust says that it can take up to 14 hair donations to make one wig.
