New homes to be built in Ketton
Seventy-one new homes will be built across two village sites.
Beatty Homes has been granted planning permission to develop the land in Ketton.
The bigger site at The Crescent off High Street will include 50 homes and the second site will include 21 homes on land next to Chater House.
Rutland County Council’s planning committee met on Tuesday to discuss the plans.
Ketton Parish Council had objected to both schemes, raising concerns about the over-development of the bigger site, and the risk of flooding.
They were also worried about the impact on biodiversity in the village.
Members of the county council's planning committee also highlighted the different materials proposed for affordable and market value housing.
During the meeting councillor Nick Begy (Greetham - Con) said: “I’m concerned about a two-tier scheme with affordable housing in red brick and higher-value homes in stone.
“It doesn’t feel right that someone in an affordable house should have a lower standard of living.”
Despite the concerns and objections, the plans received unanimous backing from members after planning officers had recommended the schemes be approved to help meet Rutland’s housing needs.
The 50 homes in The Crescent will be a mix of two, three and four-bedroom properties with some affordable housing. The second site will have four and five-bedroom properties.
