Oakham's own Mr Bean "swamped" at Royal wedding
A Mr Bean lookalike from Oakham said he was swamped by fans of the famous character when he joined thousands of people on the streets of Windsor to watch the Royal wedding.
Dean Hibbitt, 49, a taxi driver who has lived in Oakham his "whole life", said he had always been told that he looked like Rowan Atkinson, the actor who is known the world over for playing Mr Bean.
"For the past few months I've been dressing up like Mr Bean with the idea of doing functions," said Dean.
"I decided to go in character to the Royal wedding to see what reaction I would get and what it would be like to be around thousands of people dressed as Mr Bean."
He said he was totally unprepared for the reaction.
"It was like being thrust into stardom.
"As I walked around the streets of Windsor I was mobbed by people.
"Many thought I really was Rowan Atkinson and a lot of people were following me around wanting to take photographs with me."
Dean said several television news stations and local media outlets had done interviews with him.
"I didn't get a second to relax - people were chanting 'Mr Bean, Mr Bean' as I walked around.
"It was completely surreal."
He said the experience had given him a lot of confidence to pursue a career in doing Mr Bean impersonations.
"I had a brief conversation with an agent who said I could make a good living out of it.
"He told me I was very realistic and I'm pretty excited about this going forward."
