The organ at St Guthlac's Church in Market Deeping is re-dedicated after refurbishment project

A historic church organ has been re-dedicated after an £80,000 refurbishment.

The instrument at St Guthlac’s Church in Market Deeping was re-dedicated on Sunday (October 27) by the Bishop of Grantham, the Right Rev Dr Nicholas Chamberlain.

Composer Alan Bullard wrote Make a Joyful Noise unto the Lord for the occasion.

Nigel Bacon, reader and churchwarden, said: “It went very well and we had a congregation of over 150 people.

“The service was really uplifting and Bishop Nicholas led the service brilliantly and made people feel part of it.

“It’s the first time the organ was formally played because when they go through a refurbishment like ours has done, it needs time to settle but the instrument performed absolutely flawlessly.

“The anthem Alan Bullard composed was a challenge for both choir and organ but showed their capabilitities to the full.”

An organ recital with organists Paul Hale and Anthony Baldwin is on Saturday, November 30, at 7.30pm.

A Garland for Guthlac will be premiered and free tickets are available from the church, library, town hall and community centre.
