Oakham photographer captures photo of 4 otters running along ice at Rutland Water

An amateur photographer captured this stunning image of four otters bounding along the ice at Rutland Water.

Tony Marshall has been keeping a keen eye on the family for a few weeks so had a pretty good idea of where to spot them when he headed to the reservoir yesterday morning (Sunday, December 18).

He spent around an hour in freezing temperatures waiting for them before he was rewarded with this amazing image of a mother and her three cubs.

"It was a thrill to get this image of all four of them," said Tony, 51, who lives in Oakham and works as a handyman.

"What was remarkable was that they seemed quite happy bounding along and weren't sliding around so although the ice is not ideal for wildlife, it clearly didn't faze them at all."

Tony has always had an interest in photography but has been photographing wildlife for about two years.

He also took this fantastic fox photo.

The temperatures over the last week also led to the lake at Burghley Park, near Stamford, freezing over, as shown in this image by David Dykes.
