Car parking charges in Stamford to increase by up to 30p an hour from April
Car parking charges in Stamford are set to increase by 20p per hour for up to a three hour stay from April.
The move was discussed by South Kesteven District Council's full council at a meeting on Monday and members had previously discussed putting each rate up by 30p.
For stays over three hours, the rate will still go up by 30p, meaning it will cost £5.30 to stay in one of the town's short stay car parks for more than four hours or £4.10 to park all day in a long stay car park, up from £3.80.
The price of car parking in the district council's car parks in Grantham is also increasing but only by 10p per hour.
After the meeting, cabinet member for commercial and operations, Dr Peter Moseley (Con), said: “We are lucky that Stamford has a very busy town centre in terms of visitors, so to maximise the churn in our car parks and, in turn, the number of customers to local shops, parking fees have been raised slightly across the board.
"However, we listened to the councillors in these areas and while the original proposal was for a 30p increase, it was decided to hold this to 20p for up to and including three hours.
"The parking fees are tailored to individual towns to give the best outcome for the local area. These charges also support the maintenance and investment in our car parks to enable us to provide a quality service where it is needed across the district and it costs more to maintain our car parks in Stamford than it does in Grantham.”
