Campaigner launches petition in Bourne calling on Lincolnshire County Council to reduce deer accidents on A15
A petition has been launched calling on Lincolnshire County Council to do more to prevent accidents involving deer along a busy stretch of road.
Jason McNeill began a campaign earlier this year to highlight the number of deer killed and seriously injured along the A15 between Rippingale and Morton
Over the last week he has handed out petitions around shops in Bourne asking for action such as lighting, more warning signs and a reduction in the current 60mph limit.
People will have until Friday, March 25 to add their name before it is passed on for the attention of LCC leader Martin Hill.
“We have had lots of people interested in helping,” said Jason.
“There are many people here who travel down that road regularly and want something to be done. Hopefully this will help prove it.”
A particular hotspot is at Dunsby Wood, next to the A15, where the population is believed to be around 1,500.
Jason is pleased at the response he has had from the local community which he believes have had enough of the distressing sight.
“The deer are still getting killed,” he said.
“I have friends who are still dragging them off the road.”
Lincolnshire Highways believe there is enough warning signs at that stretch, but said they would ‘review all correspondence’ before considering the ‘best approach’.
Petitions can be found in McColls Newsagents and Petorama Pet Shop, both in West Street.
