Signs warning dog owners of their responsibilities to pick up after their pets are continuing to be installed in Bourne and across the wider district.

One area where signage has recently gone up is in Saffron Walk, Bourne.

The move by South Kesteven District Council follows an ongoing district-wide review of signage and listening to and working with local residents to identify areas where dog fouling incidents regularly occur.

Teams installing the signage are also educating and reminding owners to pick up after their pets or potentially face a £75 on the spot fine.

Portfolio holder for healthy environment Councillor Nick Craft said: “We will always look to educate dog owners on their responsibilities and the wider issues and dangers of not picking up after a dog in public places.

“Increased and up to date signage and patrols from our environmental health team encourages the minority of owners who allow their pets to foul to think twice.

“The team liaise with owners on just how dangerous it can be to leave mess in public places given it contains bacteria that can be harmful to children and adults if they come into contact with the mess.

“We are also reiterating that dog waste can be left in public litter bins in South Kesteven as long as it is bagged.”

Residents and businesses wishing to report dog fouling should call 01476 406080 or email ehs@southkesteven.gov.uk
