Plans for 62 homes off Normanton Road, Edith Weston
A development of 62 new homes has been suggested for farmland near Rutland Water.
If granted, there would be a new estate off Normanton Road, Edith Weston, with access not far from the entrance to the reservoir’s Normanton car park.
Proposed by Philip Davies of Normanton, the outline application made to Rutland County Council refers to land a short distance from another new estate, planned by Francis Jackson Homes.
Submitted in August, the earlier is for up to 60 homes off Pennine Drive.
Responding to Mr Davies’ application, Vanessa Newton of Normanton Road in Edith Weston has sent an objection to the council because of the effect it might have on traffic and safety.
She said: “Access issues on Normanton road is not safe. This is a busy road with the access to Rutland Water being on the opposite side of the road and this is an issue due to the high number of visitors to the area.”
She added that the local area cannot support the two proposed developments, and feels the “this rural area will lose it village feel”.
A traffic survey submitted with the application found the development would be likely to generate about 28 additional vehicle movements on the road in the peak hour of the morning, and 26 in the peak hour of the evening.
The planning application reference for Normanton Road is 2022/1213/MAO and the reference for Pennine Drive is 2022/0903/MAO.
