Plans submitted by Recharge Roadside Services Ltd for service station north of A47 in Duddington Way, Uppingham

A new petrol station could be built on the A47 if plans are given the green light.

The Stamford-based company, Recharge Roadside Services Ltd, has applied for planning permission to build a petrol station on land north of the A47 in Uppingham.

The planning application, which has been submitted to Rutland County Council, includes an eight pump petrol station, a convenience store and a drive-thru coffee shop.

Should plans be approved, four electric vehicle charging points will also be located on the site and the development will have infrastructure to enable more charging points to be put in as demand increases.

A total of 40 car parking spaces, three of which are disabled, would be available with 19 for the petrol station and 21 for the coffee shop.

The site, which is located north of A47 in Duddington Way, Uppingham, is currently part of an agricultural field used for grazing and sits outside the boundary of the Uppingham Neighbourhood Plan.

On the applicant’s design and access statement, they say ‘there is a deficiency in road services along the A47 corridor, particularly 24-hour provision and electric charging facilities’ so it ‘is appropriately located to address this deficiency’.
