Play area in Bertie Lane, Uffington, gets major revamp after joint funding effort from village groups

Village children are set to enjoy a bigger and better play area thanks to the combined efforts of community groups.

Work is under way on improvements to the play area in Bertie Lane, Uffington, and is set to be reopened in the coming week.

Equipment was bought to appeal to slightly older children, and will include a multi-play unit incorporating a slide, a see-saw, an accessible roundabout, a ball funnel and a scorpion swing.

Improvements to the play area were first proposed by the Uffington Village Hall committee to match the offerings of similar play parks in local villages.

The village hall donated £10,000 to the project from a small surplus of funds, thanks to a healthy number of bookings, and a Government covid grant.

The committee also approached the Somes Trust, a fund for Uffington children, who donated £8,000, while Uffington Parish Council contributed £6,000.

South Kesteven District Council leader Kelham Cooke and Coun Rosemary Trollope-Belle also contributed £500 ward member grants toward the project.

A formal opening and blessing of the equipment by Father Aran Beesley will take place at a later date.
