Swimming pool in Bourne has its water temperature reduced to save money
Swimming pools have had their water temperature reduced to save money.
Facilities in Bourne and Grantham have each had their water temperature reduced by one degree.
South Kesteven District Council confirmed its leisure centres operator LeisureSK has taken the decision because of an increase in energy bills.
A spokesperson for South Kesteven District Council said: "It is a very challenging time for all leisure operators, and particularly those with swimming pools, as they are high users of gas and electricity.
"Our leisure operator LeisureSK are always mindful of energy efficiency and pricing and one mitigating action we have taken is to slightly lower the pool temperatures in an appropriate manner.
“The temperature is reduced by one degree for swimmers as we continue to maintain industry standards while seeking a sensible balance for our council tax payers.”
The temperature of the pools in Bourne and Stamford is 29.5 degrees - industry standards recommended the temperature to be between 28 and 30 degrees.
Stamford's was already at this temperature but Bourne and Grantham's have been altered recently.
Leisure centres around the country have reduced temperatures in their pools amid fears that huge energy bills could mean having to close facilities, at least temporarily.
