Orbis Oakham extends 'Eat Out To Help Out' discount scheme for September
A restaurant in Oakham is extending the Government’s ‘Eat Out To Help Out’ discount scheme after seeing business soar.
Jonny Spencer, who owns Orbis on Church Street, said the 34-seat eatery had been fully-booked over August and he wanted to keep the momentum going.
He will be offering a 25 per cent discount on customers' bills, with no limit, Monday to Wednesday with the same offer also available to key workers on Thursdays.
The offer is no longer subsidised by the Government, which had paid 50 per cent of people’s restaurant bills up to £10 per person in August.
“We’ve been fully booked from the moment we put it online,” said Jonny. “We’ve had people come in six to eight times in the month who only used to eat out once a year!
“We’ve done really well from it and wanted to give something back.”
He added: “It keeps our staff busy and customers coming through the door. It’s going to be a tough year ahead so it makes sense to keep as busy as possible.”
Orbis, which specialises in tapas-style dishes of food from all corners of the globe, fed 10,000 people through lockdown.
“I’d never offered a delivery or takeaway before March but we adapted and did it well,” Jonny said. “It was a learning curve but it proved really popular.”
While the whole menu continues to prove a hit, the cornflake chicken with peanut butter mayo and tempura soft shell crab have been exceptionally popular over the past month.
“Our cocktails are always popular too!” added Jonny.
