Primary schools across Stamford, Bourne and Rutland reopen as planned as debate continues over whether it is safe with current coronavirus restrictions
Primary schools across the area are reopening today or tomorrow (Monday and Tuesday, January 4 and 5) as planned, amid a debate over whether pupils should return with the current Covid-19 restrictions.
Prime Minister Boris Johnson has said it is "safe" for children to be in school and said primary schools should reopen as planned except in a few areas, but the National Education Union has advised its members not to return.
In Stamford, the following schools reopened today (Monday):
- Bluecoat
- St George's
- St Gilbert's
- Malcolm Sargent
St Augustine's Primary in Stamford is due to reopen tomorrow - a staff training day is being held today.
In Bourne, all three primary schools are having a teacher training day today but are reopening tomorrow (Tuesday):
- Bourne Abbey
- Bourne Elsea Park
- Bourne Westfield
In the Deepings, the following schools have reopened today:
- Market Deeping Primary
- William Hildyard
- Linchfield
Deeping St James Primary is due to open tomorrow.
In Rutland, the following schools have reopened today:
- Catmose
- Oakham CE
- Ryhall
- Brooke Hill
- South Witham
- Edith Weston
- Cottesmore Academy
- Empingham
- Exton & Greetham
- Great Casterton
- Ketton
- Langham
- St Nicholas, Cottesmore
- Uppingham CE
- Whissendine
English Martyrs in Oakham is opening tomorrow.
Some councils have raised concerns about reopening and advised their schools not to reopen.
Lincolnshire County Council and Rutland County Council have been contacted and asked what their advice to schools is.
