Lifting lockdown restrictions in Rutland and allowing pubs to open on July 4 will bring a welcome boost to tourism in the county
Rutland's tourism industry will soon be given a boost when pubs, restaurants and hotels reopen on July 4.
Tourism is one of the biggest contributors to Rutland's economy with recent figures showing 1.9 million visitors generated more than £135m in 2018.
Many hospitality businesses earn up to 70 per cent of their revenue between March and October.
Chairman of Discover Rutland, Jason Allen, said: "Being closed during this time has been extremely challenging with many businesses facing an uncertain future.
"The advantage of being able to open now rather than in September is that we can salvage some of the summer season."
Businesses will still face some restrictions to make sure they are Covid secure including the need to offer table service in pubs.
Jason added: "There's no one solution that fits all and I think there will be some businesses that may not survive."
Since the start of lockdown in March, tourism bodies have been working hard to prepare for an eventual reopening.
The Discover Rutland team have advertised the county as "the perfect rural escape" for people who may be nervous about travelling abroad.
The Olive Branch at Clipsham is ready to welcome back customers along with furloughed staff.
Co-owner Ben Jones said: "We don’t intend to lay anyone off but we’ve received no government grants, so we’re relying on local tourism bouncing back.
"We hope the Great British public’s desire to holiday at home will help.
"It’s vital we encourage tourists to visit. We need everyone to shout about our wonderful area more than ever in the months ahead.
"The future of many local businesses – and the jobs of their employees – depends on it."
