Royal Duke in Oakham shuts for 48 hours after customer tests positive for Covid-19
A pub in Oakham has closed for 48 hours after a customer confirmed he had tested positive for Covid-19.
The Royal Duke bar and grill, on West Road, made the announcement on its Facebook page today (Wednesday, September 9).
Its management wrote: “Morning guys, had a phone call this morning off a customer that has been tested positive for covid 19 he was in the pub Friday and Saturday evening, due to this we are now closed for the nxt 48 hours and are undertaking a deep clean following advice given from Rutland council.
“All staff are being tested for covid 19. We will re open this Friday from 2pm as normal. We look forward to welcoming you back to a safe environment.”
Several customers have asked for the man to be named, but the pub’s manager said this was not possible for confidentiality reasons. However, she did confirm that he is not a regular.
The venue has been approached for further details, such as what advice is being given to customers, whether names had been taken on both evenings for contact tracing purposes, and whether social distancing was being observed in the building.
Government advice currently states that anyone contacted by the NHS Test and Trace service and informed they have been in contact with someone who tested positive for Covid-19 should self-isolate for 14 days.
Those who have not been notified should follow general advice such as social distancing and regular hand-washing.
Anyone who develops symptoms should arrange for a test as soon as possible.
