Pupils from Bourne Westfield visit zoo
Year 1 children from Bourne Westfield Primary Academy, had the
fantastic opportunity to visit Hamerton Zoo this term as part of
their ‘Animal Antics’ topic. Whilst at the zoo, they received an
animal talk from a zoo expert, where they could handle different
animal skins and learn how to group animals into categories:
mammals, birds, amphibians or reptiles. The children were able
to get up close to an albino pygmy hedgehog, a snake and a
little parrot who was shy at first but soon found her confidence
and landed on a few of the children to say hello! One child
commented, “Wow there are so many animals here - it’s amazing! I
am going to bring my mummy and daddy another day to teach them
lots of new facts!”
All of the adults on the trip were impressed with the excellent
questions and mature behaviour from all of the pupils. Deputy
Headteacher, Kat Finch, explained; “It was fantastic to see the
children so engaged and excited. They were continuously asking
questions about the animals and their habitats. We even saw
feeding time at the zoo which was really fascinating to watch.”
