Black History Month was the focus of lessons at William Hildyard Primary School in Market Deeping

Schoolchildren have been sharing their thoughts on equality and fairness during Black History Month.

Each class at William Hildyard Primary School in Market Deeping has been learning about a different person during lessons this month.

The youngest children learnt about Bob Marley and Mary Seacole while further up the school, the children looked at Mary Jemison, Lewis Hamilton, Henry Brown and Martin Luther King Junior.

Their studies culminated in a striking display about the importance of equality.

Head of school Matthew Baker said: "We decided to celebrate Black History Month partly due to events that have taken place globally this year but also to expose our children to the contribution that different figures from black ethnic backgrounds have made to society, both in the past and present.

"The work the children have produced and the discussions we have had in class have complemented many of our Christian values, such as friendship, respect and tolerance of others."
