Dying Matters in Rutland launch Rutland Water sponsored walk to raise funds for Dove Cottage, LOROS and Sue Ryder Thorpe Hall hospices

Entries are being sought for a sponsored walk around Rutland Water to raise money for three hospices.

Dying Matters in Rutland, an initiative led by Lord-Lieutenant of Rutland, Dr Sarah Furness, is organising the event on Sunday, April 3 from 9.30am.

The walk will start at Whitwell car park and will offer a choice of 15-mile or 26-mile routes. It is open to all ages as well as dogs on leads.

“The sponsored walk is part of an ongoing collaboration between Dying Matters in Rutland, LOROS, Sue Ryder and Dove Cottage, to help ensure people in Rutland, Leicestershire and our region can have the best end of life possible," said Dr Furness.

"Hospices rely on the community for much of their funding and that is why I would like invite everyone to participate.”

Dying Matters has set up bereavement help points in Ketton and Uppingham and hopes to establish more.

Joely Garner, community fundraising manager at Sue Ryder Thorpe Hall Hospice, said: “We are really proud to be part of this community event, raising vital awareness of hospices and the support and services we provide to local families when they need it most.

"The funds raised through the walk will help us to continue to provide our expert care and fill families’ final days with love.”
