Pupils at the Willoughby School in Bourne aim to raise a smile with their artwork

Schoolchildren have used their time to brighten up their neighbourhoods.

Most children are currently being kept at home while the country battles the coronavirus pandemic, but others continue to be cared for at school.

The children of key workers, some with special educational needs and other vulnerable children have been enjoying a range of extra curricular activities.

This week pupils at the Willoughby School in Bourne focussed their attention on creating artwork to decorate the school gates.

Teacher Rachel Reid said: "We have been doing lots of fun activities including accessing outside areas like the paddock and sensory garden, cooking, music and arts and crafts."

The staff are currently looking after around 10 children each week. The art work was created by pupils Teri Fisher, Jakub Dykowski , Ben Utteridge and Olivia Beck.

Children at William Hildyard Primary School in Market Deeping have also created a rainbow out of hand prints to brighten up their street scene.

It is part of a national initiative called Chase The Rainbow which is spreading on social media. It encourages children to create a rainbow and hang it in their window for people to spot during their daily exercise.

Some households have also started to place teddy bears in their windows for children to go on a bear hunt.
