Plans to demolish the Ram Jam Inn at Stretton and build four business units on the site are put on hold because of concerns it will cut off access to the A1 petrol station from Greetham

New plans to build four business units on the site of the Ram Jam Inn at Stretton have been put on hold.

Godwin Developments amended its proposals after the previous scheme was rejected at appeal.

The company now wants to demolish the Ram Jam Inn and build two drive-thru units and two shop or café units.

But during a Rutland County Council planning meeting on Tuesday night, it became clear that changes to the road layouts would cut off vehicle access from the B668.

Greetham parish councillor David Hodson said villagers would be “furious” to lose direct access to the existing petrol station and shop.

Rutland county councillor Nick Begy (Con) agreed that changes to the access were not made clear to the public.

He said: “There are lots of people locally who don’t like driving on the A1 and won’t do it. At no point was removal of access to the petrol station discussed. I don’t feel the community has been consulted on this.”

The planning committee voted to defer making a decision on the application until the access can be reviewed.

Richard Cornes, of Godwin Developments, said he was happy to review the access.

He added: “We have gone a very long way to adapt the plans. They will make very suitable use of the site.”
