This coming May, at the infamous Dirty Weekend event, Rat Race Adventure Sports are holding their first Young Mucker Race.

The new ‘Young Mucker Race’ offers a chance for 8 to 15-year-olds to get a taste for the world’s biggest obstacle run in a fun-sized serving.

As part of the race, which takes place at Burghley House near Stamford, the Young Muckers will complete a 1.5km for 8 to 10 years or 3km for 11 to 15 years course, taking in the ‘School Daze’ zone from the ‘Full Mucker’ route, plus some obstacles created just for them.

The race will take place after the main race has started and will be staggered in two waves: those aged 8-10 will start at 2pm, with the 11-15 age group starting at 2.30pm.

Rat Race managing director and creator of the Dirty Weekend Jim Mee said: “We have seen more and more children coming to support their families over the years and we wanted to give them an opportunity to tackle an obstacle event themselves.

“We assume most parents will run alongside their children but if you are completely exhausted from the ‘Full Mucker’, there will be marshals running around the course with the children. The Young Mucker race will have its own race director who will be focused on ensuring everyone has a safe and enjoyable experience as a Young Mucker.

Young Mucker entry is £20 per child and £5 from each entry goes to Children With Cancer.

More than 8,000 people are expected to take part in the main event, which is now in its third year.

Across 20 miles and 20 themed zones, participants will have to conquer more than 200 obstacles.

2015 also sees the launch of the ‘Dirty Double Ultra’, where those who are brave enough are challenged to tackle not one, but two laps of the course, covering 40 miles and 400 obstacles.

There is also a half mucker option where competitors can run a shorter 13 mile course and 150 obstacles.

Entry to the Dirty Weekend is open until capacity is reached and costs £145 per person or £135 per person when entered as a team of 5, and £125 per person for a team of 10. This entry fee includes access to the after party.
