Duncan Pittaway to speak at Bourne Motor Racing Club about the Fiat S76 or 'Beast of Turin'
Bourne Motor Racing Club’s guest speaker on Thursday, November 14, will be Duncan Pittaway.
Duncan will be telling the story of the famous, fire breathing, Fiat S76, otherwise known as the ‘Beast of Turin’, writes Colin Gibson.
The Fiat S76 was built in 1910 to beat the existing land speed record, held at that time by the German ‘Blitzen Benz’ motor cars.
The Fiat had a 28.5 litre, four cylinder engine, which developed over 300hp, and propelled the car to 116 mph taking both the land speed record and the one mile speed record in 1911.
Duncan’s car is one of the two S76 Fiats that were built and is now the sole survivor of these epic machines.
Doors at Bourne Corn Exchange open at 7pm and Duncan will begin his presentation at 8pm.
The club has a full programme of speakers throughout 2019 and is well booked into 2020.
Membership is currently £20 for the year.
Visitors and guests can pay £5 on the night.
