Temperatures in Stamford and Rutland break records and today set to be higher according to weatherman
A weatherman has reported that temperatures yesterday in Stamford and Rutland were record-breaking but today is set to be even higher.
Phil Morrish, who is based in Rothley in Leicestershire, said the final temperatures for Monday (July 18) were 36.4C at Uppingham School and 36.1C in Stamford.
The previous record in Wittering was 36C on July 25, 2019, according to Phil.
Phil said: "Temperatures have been record breaking here in Rutland so far. We have broken our daytime max record at Uppingham School with 36.4C recorded there and 36.1C at Wittering with even higher temperatures likely today. Last night was Wittering's warmest ever night with a minimum temperature of 21C."
He said that temperatures will climb today and it was possible the area would hit 40C. Cooler air will then move in and there could be a few showers or storms overnight, with a minimum of 18C.
The sunshine wasn't good news for everyone though - a large fire broke out in Stamford and the dryness exacerbated it, while many businesses and tourist attractions have closed or changed their hours in response.
A school is also closed today.
