The Rotary Club of Stamford Burghley holds trolley dash around Waitrose in Stamford

A competition winner has dashed around a Stamford supermarket and bagged himself a trolley full of goodies.

Robert Ellks, from Morcott, struck lucky in a raffle run by The Rotary Club of Stamford Burghley, to get the chance to win the 15-minute dash around Waitrose in West Street, Stamford.

He managed to collect £300 worth of items - including bottles of wine and toilet rolls!

Bob Iveson, president of The Rotary Club of Stamford Burghley, said: “This year we raised a record £2,500 for the sale of tickets in Waitrose's front lobby and at the Santa Fun Run.

“The prize was a 15-minute trolley dash, worth up to £300, around the Waitrose Stamford store, assisted by Rotarians.

“Mr Ellks has very kindly agreed to donate the unused part of his prize to the Stamford Foodbank, which is one of the main recipients of the raffle proceeds.

“I would like to thank John Evans, deputy manager of Waitrose Stamford, and his team of partners who prepared the store for us to complete our trolley dash.”

Mr Evans said “Waitrose enjoys its relationship with the local community.

"In the store we have a collection basket for the Stamford Foodbank and we also have our Community Matters collection bin that distributes £1,000 each month to local charities which customers select by depositing their green tokens.

“We also support a number of food-related charities here in Stamford, including Second Helpings.

“Our relationship with Rotary has been ongoing for a few years now and we are delighted to host the raffle and get things ready for the trolley dash.

“Our partners put an extra effort into getting the store prepared.

"I hope Mr Ellks enjoys his prize and know that the Stamford Foodbank will appreciate his kind donation.”

The Rotary Club of Stamford Burghley raised £16,000 through its Santa Fun Run in December, giving out significant donations to charities such as MindSpace, Thorpe Hall Hospice, Stamford Foodbank and Anna's Hope.
