A cub scout leader will run 100 miles around Burghley Park this weekend ending with the new Burghley 7 race.

John, a leader with 2nd Stamford Cubs, said: “I became a volunteer four years ago helping at my son’s cub pack and passing on my own life skills.

“Seeing the enjoyment and interest the young people have is very satisfying and I’ve never looked back.

“I’m running the London Marathon to promote the fact that we as a country need more people to volunteer as a leader or to give some time to help local scout groups.

“I’m also raising money to help fund a new headquarters for the 2nd Stamford groups so we can keep offering young people the opportunity to get involved in scouting.”

John, a gardener at Burghley House, will start his 100-mile challenge around the parkland on Friday (March 6).

On Saturday he has invited the beavers, cubs and scouts to join him for a section of his route.

He hopes to complete the 100 miles on Sunday by joining other runners tackling the Burghley 7.
