Checks on patients at care home in Rutland leads to award

A care home received an award after staff introduced changes to the way residents are cared for.

Senior carer Sarah Cooper and care assistant Sophie Temple at Oak House Residential Home in Greetham have introduced in-house checks for pressure sores rather than bringing in people from outside the business.

The changes were made following their involvement in the East Midlands Patient Safety Collaborative which used a Dutch model of caring for people. It monitors the prevalence of issues such as pressure ulcers, continence, nutrition, falls and pain management.

Manager Debbie Dalby said: “It has definitely improved the care we provide and the staff are more confident in spotting signs of pressure damage and working on prevention.”
