Ryhall Gala goes with a swing

Ryhall Summer Gala hit all the right notes as two bands and a singer entertained delighted sun-soaked crowds.

Record numbers of up to 1,000 people flocked along to the village’s playing fields on Sunday to make it the best extravaganza yet.

Debbie Rolfe, chairperson of the gala’s organising committee, said: “We’ve been going for five years - and we’re getting better and stronger all the time.

“Up to about 1000 people came along altogether throughout the day - and they absolutely loved it.

“The sun shone, it was a fantastic turn-out and everyone went home with a smile on their face.”

The Ryhall parish councillor said the dog agility display and dog show were genuine highlights.

“Dominic Brister, who’s a local teacher, is an amazing singer and went down ever so well with all our visitors.

“We also had a local jazz band and ukulele performers while the Morris Men were as popular as ever,” said Debbie.

“We attracted more stalls than ever before and had a great steady flow of people in from 11.30am right through to close of play at 4pm.

“The whole show went with a real swing in more ways than one!

“It’s taken us a year to plan the gala and to raise the cash to stage it but it was worth all the hard work.”

She also saluted Air Training Corps cadets for helping to make the extra-special spectacular possible.

“They all worked tirelessly and provided the muscle.

“The cadets are priceless and do us proud year in year out,” said Debbie.

“The gala generates the money to fund other events such as bringing in a magician for kids so it’s the gift that keeps on giving.”
