Coronavirus: Oakham School offers free parking for key workers

A school is offering free parking for key workers with jobs in Oakham.

A social media user tweeted Oakham School asking whether they would be able to open their car parks for key workers in the town.

Due to it being the end of term many parts of their site need to be secured however one of the school’s car parks will be open to the town’s key workers.

Henry Price, headteacher at Oakham School, said: “We were happy to respond to a Twitter request from a member of the community.

He added: “We know this is a small gesture, but we hope that it will be of some help to the key workers who are travelling into Oakham during this challenging time.”

The car park is adjacent to and behind the former Odd House Tavern, in Station Road and will be open for 24 hours.

Key workers do not need to contact the school to use the car park during this time.

Mr Price said: “We are keen to do what we can to support the local community, and I have been in touch with Rutland County Council to see if there are other opportunities to offer practical help during this difficult time.”
