Ketton CE Primary School rated good by Ofsted

Children say they feel safe and happy at their village school, which has just been rated as good across the board.

Ofsted inspectors found that Ketton CE Primary School is good in all areas of its work, from the quality of education and behaviour of its pupils to its leadership.

During a two-day visit, the children were seen to enjoy their time at school, telling inspectors there are very few cases of bullying and that they know who to speak to if they have a problem.

The children were found to follow an ambitious curriculum and behave well in class, although inspectors noted that some pupils behave badly at break times and called for this to be addressed.

Teachers have also been asked to make sure their activities match the requirements of the curriculum in all subjects.

The report, which was publishd on Friday last week, said: “Some teachers do not always precisely match learning activities to the curriculum in some subjects. This means that some pupils do not always learn as well as they could.

“Leaders should ensure that teachers are clear about the intentions of learning activities, and that they match the aims of the curriculum.”

Headteacher Glenn Fraser was pleased with the report.

He said: “During the feedback meetings, the inspectors were very keen to stress that we were a “strong good” and everyone should be proud of this achievement.

“The report highlights areas where the school excels as well as identifying two areas for improvement. This information is invaluable as it will allow us to dedicate real focus to those areas whilst also ensuring we maintain our excellent, ambitious standards across the board.”

The school is part of the Rutland Learning Trust.

Chief executive officer Rob Gooding said: “The Ofsted inspection illustrates that the pupils are nailing the 6 Rs: reading, writing, arithmetic, respect, responsibility and readiness for learning.

“Well done to everyone associated with the school and I look forward to continuing to work with the leadership team to ensure that we improve on those exacting standards.”
