Bluecoat School in Stamford could become part of the CMAT trust that runs Stamford Welland Academy

Governors are asking parents if a town primary school should join the trust which runs Stamford Welland Academy.

The Bluecoat School in Green Lane has just been given the go-ahead to become an 'academy' and plans to join Cambridge Meridian Academies Trust (CMAT) on January 1, 2021.

CMAT runs 16 primary, secondary and sixth-form schools in Cambridgeshire, Northamptonshire, Bedfordshire and Lincolnshire.

Unlike community schools, which receive funding from the local authority, academies receive funding directly from the Government and are run by an academy trust. They do not have to follow the national curriculum and can set their own term dates.

The Bluecoat School governors will consult with parents and the school community before a decision is made.

Chairman of governors, Jill Haigh, said: “We firmly believe the time is right for The Bluecoat School to join a multi-academy trust and we are really pleased to have CMAT as our preferred choice as its values closely align with those of the school.

Executive director of primary at CMAT, Jane Dooley, said the trust wanted to support the school and maintain its 'outstanding status', adding that they were "impressed by the vibrant community cultivated within the school by its governing body and senior leadership team, led by headteacher Ben Bloor".

The Bluecoat School was rated 'Outstanding' at its most recent Ofsted inspection, in December 2015.

The closing date for representations from members of the community and parents to the proposal is Friday, November 6. For further information email office@bluecoat.lincs.sch.uk
