These shocking images show the extent of the bus crash which closed the A1 earlier today.

The accident, involving a car and a coach carrying teenagers, happened at 1.15pm. The bus was travelling on the southbound side of the carriageway, while the car was on the northbound carriageway.

The A1 was closed for several hours while police investigated and reopened overnight.

A man, believed to be the car driver, was flown to the Queen's Medical Centre in Nottingham in a serious condition.

Police confirmed the bus was carrying passengers but none were injured. It is unclear how many people were on the bus.
