Bourne Toys disappointed by TerraCycle decision to stop crisp packet recycling scheme

A town shop which donates to charities by collecting plastic destined for landfill is disappointed at a recycling company's decision to stop accepting crisp packets.

Bourne Toys, in Victor way, accepts a wide range of non-recyclable waste and sends it to TerraCycle in return for cash.

Last year they donated the proceeds to Bourne-based Don't Lose Hope mental health charity and the South Kesteven branch of Little Miracles.

TerraCycle ends its crisp packet recycling scheme on Monday, April 25.

"It's annoying that the scheme is closing as it was one of the more popular ones," said co-owner Melanie Barber.

"But we will continue to take the crisp packets and place them in the KP snacks scheme.

"Other very popular schemes have also stopped in the last few months, including pet food pouches, Tassimo pods, phone cases and baby food pouch schemes."

The shop collects a wide range of waste from batteries and roll-on deodorants to Hasbro toys and pens, and has now begun to collect bras for Cancer Research UK.

It also collects aluminium - melted down for hospital helipads - and has expanded this to foil pie and cake cases and tin foil, as well as drinks cans.
