QD in Oakham atracts queues of shoppers on its opening day
Shoppers were queuing up to get a first glimpse of the new QD store when it opened in Oakham.
Mayor David Romney cut a ribbon outside the Church Street premises on its opening day last Thursday.
The 8,000 sq ft shop brings a range of homeware, gifts, toys and food to the town.
Mr Romney said: “I was delighted to officially open the new QD here in Oakham.
"The store has created 21 new jobs which is very welcome news for the area. We are sure QD will be a great addition to the town.”
The shop covers two floors in the former Fords of Oakham premises.
Work will soon be under way to install a lift to make the whole shop more accessible for everyone.
Sore manager Aneta Ozya said: “It was an honour to have the mayor and mayoress officially open our new store.
"It was very busy since we opened our doors at 9am and feedback throughout the day was fantastic.
"We’re not just another discount shop – customers have been really surprised by the great quality of our products."
QD made a donation to the mayor's charity of the year, Sunflowers, which is a support group for families of children with additional needs.
