Orbis in Stamford launches dining in the dark

A restaurant owner is launching a new 'dining in the dark' event inspired by his own experience of sight loss.

Jonathan Spencer came up with the idea of hosting a five-course tasting menu at Orbis in Stamford which guests will enjoy blindfolded.

He believes their loss of sight will heighten their other senses, making it a more fulfilling experience.

Jonathan suffered sight loss himself following a seizure in September 2018.

He said: “The idea came to me while I was sitting in a hot tub eating cheese.

"I wasn't wearing my glasses so my 10 per cent vision was reduced to nothing. Even though I couldn’t see the food, it was amazing.

"Without sight all you can do is rely on smell and taste and I thought it would be a great concept for Orbis.”

Bookings are being taken for the first event on Thursday, February 23.

Jonathan said diners should come with an open mind and be ready to try anything.

A donation from each booking will be made to Guide Dogs UK.
