New speed indication devices for Rutland

Drivers can expect to see 69 new speed indicators hitting the roads across Rutland.

The new devices will cost Rutland County Council £430,100, which is £80,100 more than originally budgeted for.

Rutland County Council’s previous cabinet approved the purchase of the illuminated signs - which display the speeds of vehicles in a bid to slow drivers down - in December 2021 but there was a delay in buying them.

Now costs have increased.

The new speed indication devices will replace all of the existing ones in Rutland and offer clearer messaging as well as logging speed data.

Twenty-three of the county’s speed indication devices don’t work and will be replaced by the end of next year, followed by 23 more between 2024 and 2025 and a further 23 from 2025 to 2026.

At a meeting of Rutland County Council’s cabinet today (Tuesday, September 12) members unanimously approved the additional funding to purchase the cameras.
